With a sharp wit and an iron fist, Lucky was a famous man in Outback NSW. He wasn’t a ladies man simply on the back of his rugged yet devilish good looks but for the fact he made the best lamb cutlets in the entire Moree District.
People would make the trek as far a field as Gundagai to sample one of Lucky’s succulent pig roasts…..an old yarn they still tell in the Royal Hotel in Moree today, is how John became “Lucky” John….
while droving up near the Queensland border, John got stampeded by a flock of wild Emu. Our hero had to walk for 3 days, dehydrated & dying of thirst plus injured with a broken collarbone, back to the Cattle Station after the killer Emus ate his horse.
